I have some great sounding 4 ohm speakers that I would like to install in my Road Glide, but the new H-K radio wants 2 ohms. Anybody know a good (aka cheap) way to make them work together?
4 ohm speaker have too much resistance for a 2 ohm stereo, it may damage the stereo. You can hook the speakers in parallel (all positives together, all the negs together) you can reduce the resistance to 2 ohms and be safe, but will loose the stereo effect.
go ahead and use them. if the stereo is rated at 2 ohm stable it will easily push 4 ohm speakers.
it is when you try and drive 2 ohm speakers with a 4 ohm reciever you will fry your stereo.
the lower the impedence of the speaker the more amperage will flow through it.
the higher the impedence the less amperage.
amplifiers are rated at the lowest possible speaker resistance that can be safely driven.
any resistance above the amplifiers rated can be safely used.
you amplifier will run cooler and you will have better dynamics with the 4 ohm speakers.

Sorry all wrong except for the parallel.
A 2 ohm speaker puts more of a load on the system than a 4 ohm. Your system will work just fine with the 4 ohm. It just means the max power output will be reduced a little. It will actually be happier in the long run with the 4.
Buy the way, I have been in professional audio since the 60's.
need help with aftermarket direct replacement speakers for my FLHXI anybody out there have the Kuryakyns...how about the hogtunes...which is better???? As usual thanx for the help!!!!!
