Default FLHT Fairing Support Brackets

I have a 1998 FLHT that snaps the fairing support brackets inside the fairing about ever two years. They break right at the top where they mount onto the inner fairing. It seems that there should not be that much stress on this part. I ride the bike alot, so it isn't just sitting in the garage, but this seems rather strange. I have talked to Harley mechanics that claim they have never changed these on a bike unless it was in a wreck. Any advice would be helpful.</P>

Default RE: FLHT Fairing Support Brackets

I think I had the same problem as you described. Im trying to remember what they looked like. If memory serves me correct they are the brackets just above and to the side of the center/radio area that add support and hold the lower fairing and dash firmly in place. If so I just bolted two pieces of angle iron (Stanley makes pre drilled angle brackets for wood working that work great) to fix/reinforce the stock pieces. I cant figure out how or why the stock pieces broke (also have a 98). Replacing the stock pieces look like a nightmare. Hope this helps.
