Here's my dilema: My bike is a 93 FXR which had a lot of customizing by the previous owner including changing to a wide front end. My Speedo drive unit broke and I'm having a heck of a time finding the right one to replace it. I can't just look up the right one for my year and model, since the front end is not stock and neither is the speedometer.
I have purchased 2 already from the dealership and neither registers the correct speed and mileage.
I see that J&P has them on sale for 15 bucks or so (versus the $70 each I paid at the dealership). I've almost considered just getting one of each and trying them all until I find one that works at this point.
So, does anyone have any idea how I can track down what I need? There are only 2 different ratios (2240:60 and 2:1) but there are multiple thickness given in J $ P, if I knew where they were measuring from.
The ration is not marked on the drive or the speedometer that I can see.
After getting a speeding ticket last week and a close call today, I need to fix this problem pronto.
George, I don't know the p/n of the drive that was on there originally (the one that broke) but the one I have now is 67132-85A. The speedo is HD, but it's not the original. I didn't pull the speedo all the way out, but just looking under the dash, I don't see a stock number printed anywhere on the Speedometer.
In the catalog, there are measurements listed for each DU (.300, .375, .400 etc) Do you know what they're measuring?
By the way, thank you very much for your interest and help.
First off that drive unit 67132-85A is for a 21 in wheel 3.0: 1 ratio If your wheel is 19 in you should be using a 67127-84A this ratio is 2.625 : 1 The measurements you show like .300/.350/3.75/.600 is the depth of the drive unit spacers that go into the seal on the wheel For a 19 in wheel the depth should be .350 This could be your problem I'll check my inventory to see if I have that DU you need
