Default Seat Question

I'm starting a new thread because I am afraid that my old one has been buried. So I got the Danny Gray Weekend Solo seat from ebay today and it is a few inches from the original mounting hole. My question is that on my Nightster it looks like that there is a closer mounting hole on the rear fender that is filled in with a HD plug, I'm wondering if it is possible to remove that plug and move the mounting hole from the middle and put it in the forward hole, or is that there for a different reason? Sorry no pics yet.
