paint question???
I'm getting ready to paint my bike, thinking of the bare metal look with flames. the guy who is going to paint it has not tried that. wondering how the flames will stick if metal is not primed or do you tape off flames and only prime that area??? any thoughts appreciated.

I have clearcoated bare metal, applied digital imaged vinyl graphics and then clearcoated over the whole surface again with great results. It looked as good or better than painted graphics. The problem with trying to work on a bare metal surface is that it will oxidize very fast, and any finger prints are very visable through clear coats.

Clearing over bare metal can be tricky. Most clears will not bond to bare metal, they will chip or peel easily after they dry. There are clears on the market that will stick to bare metal. I do reccommend a professional painter who has done this before, there are many things that can go wrong. Nothing looks worse on a bike than a shi**y paint job.
