First off, this is a great site with alot of info.I have a 2005 Fatboy I just bought new.It only
has 400 miles on her.Anyway the other day I took it on the freeway for the first time .The next
morning I went out to the garage to check on her and I noticed a nickle size cirlcle of, I think
oil or trans fluid.I found it to be coming from the vapor valve hose. What kind of fluid is this?
Should I be concerned and take her in to the dealer. Its fuel injected with the stage 1 screamin
eagle kit and Python exhaust. Thanks in advance Ray.
Now , where is this vapor hose you speak of, where is it attached to, give us a little more to go on.
If it was trans oil, it would be clear, if it was engine oil , it would be a bit darker with a few miles on it. What was directly above where you saw the drip on the floor. Left side or right side? You have the screamin eagle kit, so it could also be a drip from too much oil in the filter, that would have a reddish tint to it.
It is coming from the left side of the bike (jiffy stand side).Right above the oil spot is a hose,
like a breather type hose you find on dirt bikes.I looked it up in the soft tail service manual
and it said that hose is called a vapor hose.It is difinitely coming from that hose because
the fluid is on the opening of the hose as well. Here is the way it happens;I ride on the freeway
park it in the garage, next day circle the size of a nickle spot of oil right under that hose.Than
I put a piece of card board under the whole underneath of the bike just to see and there is
not one drop of any fluid. My oil level is perfect. The manual and the dip stick say to check oil
on the stand warmed up which I did.It seems that this hose is some type of overflow hose.
Thanks,Ray
Howdy Ray, welcome to the forum, hope that you are able to figure out what that small leak is and that it won't be anything serious. Sounds like you have been given some good ideas, hope that one of them will answer your question.
First off, having an older bike not real sure about the hose routing on your's, however if it is the breather hose from your engine it may be some oil carry over because the engine isn't broken in yet (only 400 miles ) just keep an eye on it and follow the breakin procedure
