Looking for a little advice here, I bought a new '03 VROD in May of '03. It was painted black by the dealer. When I asked where the 100th Anniv. Wings were, I was told that it didn't come with them. About 6 months ago, I went to the parts counter and tried to buy the wings. I was told that in order get new wings, I would have to exchange the old wings. But mine didn't come with wings.. at least that is what I was told. So I left, kinda bummed about it. A buddy of mine told me that my bike did come with the 100th Anniv. emblems and that the dealer had to have taken them. I could probably prove this but it might mean his job and I don't want it to get that far.
You could probebly buy on e-bay but i dont know. If someone stole them from you, go to that guy and insist that he make you happy. (money or wings ). If he couldnt satisfy you i would take whatever measures it took to make sure he is punished. Firing might be what he needs. We dont need someone at the dealer stealing from the custemers. The dealer does enough of that on their own.LOL
well, that's kinda hard because the owner of the dealership has one and the service manager has the other hanging over his office door. My buddy is a mechanic there and I'd hate for him to catch flak from it. I was thinking if I could get a copy of the build sheet from H-D it would show that it came with a set, but I have no idea how to get a build sheet from Harley, or if getting is even possible.
If you can prove that it didn't come with the wings on it (which would be hard I think...your word against the dealer's) then you're entitled to get the wings regardless of your buddy. I don't think he'd even need to be in the picture. You have a 100 year anniversary addition and should have the wings. Period.
I vaguely remember reading that some '03 models manufactured after a certain date did not come with the 100th emblem. The dealer may actually not be blowing smoke this time, but a call to the factory customer service should get you the skinny.
Thanks guys... all good stuff. I'm going to confront the dealer and see if they own up to it. I'm sure they don't want me going to H-D over this. I'll post my outcome as I get more info.
