Im new here hopefully this is the right spot for this if not ill move it. 1992 sportster 1200 new starter bike die after running for awhile. Any ideas on what to test ive already repaired several wires from prevjous owner.
Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. You say it dies after you've started and ridden it for a while? Does it then start OK again? Tell us as much as you can! Do the lights still work, or are they weak?
As of now the bike wont start at all just clicks somwtimes if I put it in gear and push it and then hit the starter it will start or at least try. Full charged battery. Relay is good starter is brand new. If something was wrong charging system would that cause some of this problem I have a feeling something is up with the stator
If its just clicking, your battery is weak either because its shot or your charging system is not charging it. Get your battery fully charged, and get your bike started. Get a multimeter (volt meter) if you do not already have one. If you do not have one, at least get a decent Craftsman model ($30) with replaceable fuses. A cheap one will work though. Go across your battery terminals at idle with the meter. Should read over 13VDC, probably more like 14VDC. If it does not, something in your charging system. Primary culprit is probably the regulator/rectifier. If your fully charged battery which should read well above 12VDC preferably over 13VDC after charging will not turn your engine over hard enough to build the compression for starting, you need a new battery. Keep in mind if it is the battery, you will want to make sure your charging system is putting out as well. It may be the reason for a bad battery. Good luck.
All fixed stator bad. Who ever own the bike before spliced a new ignition wire into the headlight harness. Like a twist two wires together and wrap in tape splice. All done where would I go to post about recommendation on parts I wanna buy
