I decided to just tear it down and replace it since I have a lot of other stuff I wanted to do as well (that required digging deep into the bike)

I got the belt off a few weeks ago and it did look pretty worn. I have a new belt that should be in today, so I can compare the two
If possible, could you post pics that compare the 2 belts? Thanks!

65,000 out of my first (06 ultra), 3,000 out of the 2nd. If you do break one, make sure to look into the cause, not just assume age. Bad swing arm bushings/bearings seems to have been the case on both. Now onto #3.

As others have said, I get mine thoroughly inspected each time it goes to the shop and was told as long as a rock doesn't get caught in it, the belt will last a long time.

Barring a rock getting caught up in them, or excessive wear from being adjusted too tight or too loose, they typically go 80-100k miles before they start having a problem. As far as years...depends on weather, exposure to different elements, etc. Just check it regularly.
