2000 Road King Classic/No Start Issue
I'm looking for a kind soul to help me with diagnosis on my 2000 Road King Classic. Late last fall, I went to start up my bike in garage and as I was letting it warm up for a few minutes, i surprising walked back into the garage to find small flames coming from the front of my bike!! The voltage regulator terminals touched the exhaust and burnt the terminals in half...
So this spring, I properly repaired the terminals for the voltage regular and upon first start up after repair, she fired right up! Later after reassembling the bike and giving it a bath, I was getting ready to go for a ride, and when I went to start it....nothing! ? So I jumped it....it stayed running for roughly 2 minutes and then re-died!! So currently, the battery is at 12 volts and when I go to fire it up, it just get clicking followed by a power loss noise. It'll take a jump, but die in 30 seconds. I'm wondering if I have a voltage regulator problem, stator problem or maybe even a starter problem!! Before I start throwing my rather light checkbook at these symptoms, can anyone offer me some advice, it'll be more than appreciated! I've got a funny feeling it's not the voltage regulator! Thank you for your time!!
