Lake Geneva? ...too touristy. I'd head to Galena and then up the Mississippi River at least as far as Trempeleau, Wisconsin. Thereare three really nice motels in Trempeleau that shouldn't be too hard to get a room in if it's a weekday. Weekends might be a bit tough without a reservation, but I don't remember the name of these places---a Google search on the town may give you some ideas. Perrot State Park is right there too if you're in the mood to camp. Last week of September, first week of October should be best for color.
If you want the best ride in WI. start at Sauck city HWY 60 go east to Prairie du Chien then take HWY 35 North to La crosse spend the night in am cross over t the MI side go north on HWY 61 to ? we never make to ST Paul . Oct 13 ,14 is when we plan our trip with Five couples ,plan on staying some where near La Crosse.(weather is a concern so is it is always a crap shoot)
try the menominee indian reservation about 40 miles west of green bay. water falls on the wolf river and the county is nearly totally virgin forest. it don;t get any better for a color ride. shawano lake is near by and motels are not a problem.
Yes I ment Minnesota just stay next to the river and you will back tothe Huck finn eara .Now my color report ,My wife and here brother were up at the cabin in Presque Isle WI witch is the middle of the state on UPstate border. Color was at 75% ,Wausau she feels should peak in about a week she put it at 50% .
Any ideas fora run for a few couples to do and see some fall colors with a nice place to stay?
Geneva? Galena any suggestions?
I've not personally stayed here, but it looks like a nice place for couples...and it's in a good riding location. That area of WI has some awesome roads (WI-33 for example).
This is a ride we are setting up for next weekend it goes from Dubuque IA. up to Prairie du Chien WI. along the river. this should give you a idea of the roads along their.
