Ignition/Tuner/ECM/Fuel InjectionNeed advice on ignition issues? Questions about a tuner? Have questions about a EFI calibration or Fuel Injection? Tips on Engine Diagnostics, how to get codes, and what they mean. Find your answers here.
I tried one. The effect is pretty subtle, but it does help to make the throttle a little less snatchy. No doubt it far less effective than a proper tune. But if you have a stock bike and just want something make it run a little better, it seems to work fine.
I can't see how it would make the difference a real tuner would, as was pointed out richer in areas and leaner in others as well as those pesky O2 sensors. Fuel maps are based on more than ambient temp vs IAT be a table cross reference, throttle position plays a key role as well as the comparison between what the fuel maps are requiring vs what the O2 sensors are reading. Plus it is just additional hardware and connectors to go wrong, I have not been a fan of piggyback systems as they tend to cause more issues than they solve. Put the table in the ECM to fix it is what I prefer.
Much humor and not much real world here is my story. 07 springer 110 screaming eagle. Stumbling when mildly hot, parade mode lots , stop light/sign stumbling back cylinder extremely hot all the time burning my a_s. Ping/knock under load acceleration. All stock Harley stuff as needed and as EPA mandated Harley remap even for these motors if sold by HD. Looked for solutions and found Nightrider O2 sensor solution. It works at every level from idle to WOT. If my mileage has gone down it is less than a 50 cents a tank. Noticeably cooler engine, no parade mode. Its hard to judge any power increases because the 110 is like twice the horses as stock but worth the money for the reduced engine and oil temps. No matter what if any device you buy they have a very interesting explanation which for the money will tell how these things help and their tech notes are a good read.. There is no engine with perfect EPA combustion and never will be. I have the 14.2 split and no more pinging and heat, mine works. Interesting site just for info.
very true, been around since gm went efi even thought it was tbi in the beginning. unless hd is diff, most of these sensors act as windows not scalable inputs. it is NOT rocket science where two variables must be mixed with extreme precision. it is sorta like the ole hd ign where you have two curves determined by map or voes.
spark plugs are ripe with hoopla also.
got a bridge to sell, located in brooklin!
what amazes me is how quick people depart with their money when most of this stuff is common OTC components which anyone can assemble.
there is a thread where someone is selling NANO engine rebuilding in a bottle for 150 bucks a pop, but wait!! on sale now for only 50 bucks. you can go to wally world and buy a can of restore for less than 20 bucks and do the same thing. it does work to an extent but must be regularly used. you CANNOT replace metal that is not there anymore!!!
did i mention i have a bridge to sell, CHEAP TOO!!!
