1993 FLHS Cruise Install Part IV
Re-wrapped the cruise wiring harness after making the last modification. Only thing left is to see what might have to be Hackd to get the FLTCU cruise power on light to work. Won't know until I see the part, which is due in tomorrow. I stripped the rest of the scooter and started 'mocking' things in. Installed the cruise module and the cruise cable. Of course I had to go back to the HD dealer today and get the correct plastic tie that attaches to the small T-stud up under the frame backbone behind the rear jug (I always wondered why that was there, thank God I never ground it off). You really need this to make the harness fit correctly. I installed the new cruise idle cable and installed a new (stock) throttle cable. Kind of broke my heart to do that as I had braided stainless, but I got over it when I discovered what a crappy job the 'technician' had done routing the cables. Just another screw up by the shop that did my top end a couple of years ago, and when they had it all apart I figured: Well might as well add some chrome, new lines, brakes, etrc. And I've gotta mention that they installed the crankcase breather incorrectly, so the new chrome rocker boxes leaked for two years (and were re-sealed four times, twice by Orlando HD and twice by the shop that did the top end ) I mentioned that perhaps they should check the breather timing, since they had the replaced the cam nose cone with a chrome one. But the owner of the shop assured me that they always 'triple check' that before buttoning things up. After the leaking continued (and he had my bike for six weeks) II offered to pay to have them check the breather. Which they did. Of course, they said it was installed correctly, but they put an S&S breather in anyway since they had it apart....Yeah, I believe 'em. I'd of had a lot more respect for him if he'd just admitted the screw up, instead of lying about it. Of course when they discovered their screw up, they didn't reseal the rocker boxes again. So having had enough of this crap, I resealed them myself. Gee, no more leaks. Funny, huh. Just another reason to do your own wrenching.
Of course, I just had to install a new pair of Kuryakyn grips since I was doing this. They'll go good with the highway pegs I already got. And since I had the carb off, I blasted it off with cleaner and installed a chrome top. I wanted to install a new fuel line, the original is still on the bike,. but HD uses a smaller outside diameter line than you can buy at the local auto supply store. And of course, HD wants $20 for their 'pre-formed' fuel line. I put the old one back on, and ordered a new one. I'm just waiting for tomorrow and that last part before I button it all up and run the diagnostic tests that are in the service manual.
