Default Spark Plugs

Good Day,

I just purchased a 2013 HD Electa Glide Ultra LTD 33,000 miles. Plugs rusted but the wear on the plug is minimal. Changing them out to start fresh. I purchased NGK Iridium, in reading the service manual, it says that using any other plug other than the HD 6R12G will create radio static. The dealer also said that he continually sees bikes coming in with 200-500 miles on NGK's and they need replacement.

Any recommendations?
Thank you in advance.

Put Harley's plugs in. At least, get them and use your volt/ohm resistant meter to make sure your NGK are the same resistance. I use NGK and they work fine but I am easy on the throttle. And the NGK is twice the resistance. So I do not believe static will be your problem. Spark knock might.
And you really do not need a premium NGK Iridium plug. A regular Harley plug will still look good if the change call out is what it use to be.

I run Iridium NGK plugs on my M8. I don't believe they wear out faster than OEM; in fact that's a ludicrous statement. I've always run NGK in all my bikes. .040" is right for your spec.

The plugs are used for a feature called ION Sense. The plugs are actually used as sensors. If they are wrong resistance, the ECM may think it misfired or think it knocked when it did not. It then will manipulate fuel and spark to compensate for a ghost condition. This usually results in lost power. You can't go wrong just installing a set of stock plugs. The aftermarket high dollar plugs aren't necessarily the best for this application.

OEM, and I'd bet they come pre-gapped but you can be thorough and check prior to install out of the box.
