Default How do you retreive codes ?

2004 Electra glide classic. I have a check engine light that comes on after starting, then goes out maybe 20 plus seconds later.
This only happens at times. So is there a way to retrieve the codes that go into history codes ?

Thanks

It runs great, and starts just fine.

CEL should come on at startup and go out. If it comes on and goes out a second time, it's indicating a stored code. If it goes on and stays on, it's indicating a current code. You can retrieve codes through your speedometer. It is done by powering up bike while holding down trip meter button - you can then enter diagnostic mode there.

A code does not always mean the part is bad.
More often it is the wiring for the circuit.

If the CKP sensor signal is weak or absent, DTCs P0373 or
P0374 will be set.
DTC P0373 is usually set when several attempts to crank the engine have failed.
Intermittent TMAP wiring or sensor issues may cause these codes to set prior to setting
TMAP codes.Verify TMAP wiring and sensor prior to replacing the CPS.

Yes - codes don't always mean a part but on a 2004, I wouldn't doubt the crank sensor could be sketchy. A 2004 does not have a TMAP, it has a MAP and a separate Temp sensor.
