hey guys, got a weird issue that just popped up last week. Bike is a 08 ultra, 96ci, has PV tuner, 551 cams and exhaust.
Last week the bike started to get harder to start, but it is intermittent. Some times it fires right up and then the next time will take 2 minutes of cranking on and off before it will fire. Weird thing is once started, it runs perfectly.
I thought fuel filter. So I changed everything while I was in there. New pump, regulator and filter. Still doing it.
Anyone heard of a coil not allowing start, but running perfect?
only code it is throwing is a 1353 which is front cylinder no combustion. That can be from anything.
I have cleaned the CPS, the MAF and checked plugs and wires.
Any suggestions would help.
First thing is to determine if it's fuel or spark related. Could be the ECM flaking out. Or a weak ground for that matter. When the battery starting getting weak in my sporty it would still crank just fine but not fire. Threw a charger on and it fired right up.
Don't rule out electrical til you've ruled out electrical. lol
The tuner isn't in the loop. Hook up, tune, unhook. The PV isn't a piggy back.

I have gone through the electrical and grounds. Battery is brand new and on a trickle charger when not being rode. Fuel pressure is good. Spark is intermittent. That is why I am leaning towards and ECM issues. Like I said, sometimes it will fire off first shot. Then I can shut it off and try to restart and it will crank forever before firing off. Once started, it runs perfect. No stumbling or stalling.
Did you test the fuel pressure with a guage? Please tell how you come to the conclusion that spark is intermittent? While ecms do occasionally fail, should confirm lots of other stuff before you go there. Do you have the shop and electronic diagnostic manuals for uour bike?

Yes, pressure was at 52 lbs at idle on a gauge. Put inline spark tester on bike. When it fires right up spark is great. When it does extended cranking, no spark till I release the start button, then it shows one spark.
I do have the repair manual, but not the electrical manual.

Did you ever find what caused the starting issue? I am currently experiencing the same thing.
