I just helped my neighbor install one on his Deluxe, and I don't have a clue where else it might go. Someone on this forum said he mounted one under the seat of his Heritage, but my friend's Deluxe had no extra room under there for even a box of matches. The specified location behind the mud guard is inconvenient to say the least, and it's a good thing I have small hands or it might not have gotten installed. Connecting the USB cable on his means removing the PCIII from the wire-ties each time, which is a hassle. If you come up with a better solution, let us know.
Thanks iclick!
Yep,.. Definately no room under the seat on the Deluxe. Hard to mount any type of DFO under there. Gonna have to think hard on weather I should go with the SERT for that very reason.

Only planminor A/C, pipe upgrades.
I really don't think you should eliminate it from contention based solely on its difficulty to install. Once installed and the TP's set, you shouldn't need to touch it again, unless you're a tweaker like me and are always changing the map. If I had a Deluxe, I would attach the USB cable on the bike and run the other end under the seat. That way you could access the PCIII easily with the computer. I'm not completely sure there's even that much room under the mud guard for the USB cable protruding. If you do it, I would glob some dielectric grease inside the main connector and around it to keep water out. If you attach the USB cable permanently I would do the same where it connects to the PCIII. I wouldn't think that area would be particularly free of water invasion.
Not sure how it is on the Heritage, but on my NT, I went this route.
Got an extra tray that holds the ECM....cut the inside of it out. Attached the two...the ECM is on the bottom tray and the PC sits on top of the ECM; the top tray, which the inside is cut out, is mounted to the fender. Came out real good. Everything is under my seat.
the pcIII should've come with a deeper tray to replace the stock one. if it did not ,call the people from whom you got it from and get it . its part of the kit.once the new tray is in place, the pcIII will fit right on top of the factory ECM.
