To start, we've got a '99 FLHRCI running some old V&H 2-into-1 Pro Pipe, and a, SE Big Bore Kit EXCEPT the Stage 1 ECM (because dad ordered each part separately thinking that he didn't need the ECM cartridge cause he had a Fuelpak and a guy who knew how to tune it). Fast forward to now, he's had to replace the Fuel Pak with a Power Commander V some years ago and it only now occurred to him that it hasn't been tuned.
I've been helping him out and checking out DynoJet's website and found two maps that match our setup closely enough, the difference being that one assumes Screamin' Eagle slip-ons (I assume for the stock dual exhaust setup), and another that has the correct exhaust but assumes either a stage 1 or stage 2 ECM.
My question is, what's the more important part to match with the tune? The exhaust system, or the ECM? I've been warned that getting something wrong could result in detonations. I've brought up getting the ECM tuned directly at a Dyno shop, but he doesn't want to cut the exhaust to weld in the O2 Sensor bungs we'd need.
A) the bike can be tuned at a dyno shop without cutting and welding bungs.
match the map to the exhaust.(in your case)
you are much better off taking it to a reputable tuning shop and having it dyno tuned, its worth it.
