soldering tips
i need to extend my speedo wiring about 6". just want to make sure it is done right. what are some tips/sugestions to make sure this is done right?
thanks
Don't move the connection until the solder has cooled.
Use self sealing heat shrink tubing for a watertight connection. Regular heat shrink isn't good enough outdoors.
Is that what you were after?

do any of you guys have soldering tips?

by applying a few millimetres of solder,
then wiped on a damp sponge preparing it for use:

2. There is no substitute for good solder flux. It promotes solder flow and even heating.
3. "Bigger the blob" does not mean "better the job". Use enough solder to fill the wire braid and make concave fillets in the joint. You should still be able to see the braid of the wire. Too much solder can hide a "cold joint" that can and will break under vibration and stress.
4. Someone already mentioned environmental grade heat-shrink. PUT IT ON THE WIRE FIRST. You can use a lighter, a heat gun works better and is more consistent.
5. If you're splicing more than one wire, stagger the splices so you don't have a big hunk-o-splice in an awkward place when you go to tie it all back up.
6. Properly clean the flux (Alcohol/Water 50/50 mix) off the joint. Acid core flux can cause deterioration or corrosion if left on solder joints.
I could nuke it more, but that's enough %)
