Default Battery Questions

Greetings,

I just bought an '08 Nightster and want to get a battery tender for it. I also have a security alarm on the bike.

My question is if I disconnect the battery to install the Ring Terminal Harness for quick connections, will I need to have any codes reset on the bike or security alarm?

My VW codes have to be reset if I disconnect the battery and I was wondering if the same was true for a motorcycle.

Thanks,

Sean

I don't know specifically for the 2008 bikes, but for the earlier bikes without the passive alarm system, you could disconnect the battery and not loose a thing.

No, you just need to have the fob near the bike when you disconnect and reconnect the battery.

Thanks...Looks like I'll only be able to ride on some weekends during the winter and just wanted to be ready to go this spring.

You might want to check your bike for an existing pigtail. More & more dealers are installing pigtails as part of setup (for their benefit mostly). They like to use chargers in their showrooms at night.

Thanks, I'll check when I get home. Do you know if the battery type is STD, AGM or GEL?

I'm sure they're not GEL. I'm pretty sure they're not Glass Mat either.
