First time with SERT and cant get it to even get started. Bought a Belkin adapter as has been suggested here. Although I have 3 USBports on computer it doesnt seem to matter which one I plug in to the SERT only gives me a choice of com3. I choose it and tell it to get ecm info and it doesnt seem connected. I get a fault saying it doesnt recognize and check connections and be sure com port is open. (the bar at top of sert says com3 open). It is not getting any info back from ECM it appears.

Not necessarily your problem but there is a current issue with the SERT software communicating with the ECUs with part number that in with -08A. The new software just released might fix that. Not supposed to be a problem with ECU part numbers ending in -08. Search some recent posts.

You have to have both the on/off switch AND the "run" switch on the handlebar on. Don't know if you're leaving the "run" switch off or not. That's what I was doing. Instructions are kind of vague in that area. I thought...."OK, I've got the ON/OFF switch on, why isn;t this thing reading?" Once I flipped the run switch on too it was able to read the ECM. Hopefully, that is all your problem is too. Good Luck.

It ended up being the Belkin adapter used to hook up to laptop. The drivers for the adapter werent in the package. Got them online and Viola it worked.
