I borrowed cables for the SERT to my laptop, but my laptop didn't have a serial port so I bought an adapter to use the USB port. I cannot get the SERT to recognize the USB port and I have chosen the right port from the com port menu and all. Does this not allow USB ports? any help?
I had to hook it all up, computer, adapter, sert cable, sert then to plug on bike and have switch turned on and make sure your run switch is in run position.
I went to a bud's house and used his regular computer with a serial port and got the same message "cannot communicate with ECM" I didn't have the run switch in the run position though, I will go try that. I'll be back if that doesn't work....stay tuned
Yes you can load a map yourself via your own PC. I did. As for tuning the SERT comes with a few canned or standard maps that will get you close. Personally I chose to go this route when I added Rush SlipOn's and AN Big Sucker. You will get the most out of it by having it tuned however since I plan a 103" or bigger build this winter I did not want to spend the money for a tune that won't work with my bike in the Spring.
