Not sure if this should go under electrical or engine related, but here goes.
Just done the 15k service. \\; On checking the spark plugs I find that the rear cylinder plug looks fine, but front cylinder plug has substantial black sooty deposits. \\; \\; Correct me if I am wrong but black sooty deposit means running rich or not getting a good spark. \\; The bike is a 2005 Standard with EFI, so I can't see it being a fuel mixture problem on one cylinder only. \\; I have checked the plug cable - no obvious damage. \\; Checked the resistance of the cable and it is at the low end of the range in the manual but just in the range. \\; (cable for rear cylinder is also at the low end of the range).
I changed the plugs at the 10k service, so there is only 5k on the plug. \\; I have spoken to the guy at the local independent, and he can offer no suggestions other than checking what I already checked. \\;
I see you have V&\\;\\\\\\;H pipes. What other mods? Any fuel management device? It is possible to have one cylinder running leaner than the other based on your ecm map.
I don't have any fuel management device. \\; I have been considering a power commander, but not got there yet.
I changed the plugs yesterday, and will try testing for leaks tomorrow all being well. \\; Wanted to do it today but its my youngest's birthday party today so I won't have time.
The manual suggests using propane to test for leaks, but I have heard of folk using WD40. \\; Anyone tried with WD40? \\; Seems that I would be less likely to torch myself or the bike with WD40 than with propane!
2005 was the year that that harley changed to beehive springs they had problems with the first set of valveguide seals...black ones ... bet you have a bit of a valve guide seal leak!
