I did an upgrade to my Fat Boy and yes Harley sells a $75 bulb. You cannot get it for a Fat Boy due to Fat Boy Lamps are one piece
I swapped out to a full Nacaelle (did I spell that right?) and put a Road King front lamp in and changed to a high out put Zeon or what ever it called and its great. Dont ever touch the bulb or after you install it it will blow. You need to have a headlight that comes apart
and not sealed like a Fat Boy and others. Only the Road King/Herritage type come apart to do the bulb swap. Also I got a new Headwinds bar assembly for a Fat Boy and put 2" Halogen spots and I love all the light. Hope this helps somebody...Augie
What about these new Xenon type bulbs? (not the imitation ones...) I think the Xenon are supposed to run cooler than the Halogen and below is a link to a motorcycle web page with too much information one bulbs, but it is informational. http://www.webbikeworld.com/lights/
Regarding Xenon bulbs and the wild claims about high output from a standard wattage bulb - I am very skeptical. Xenon is located quite low in the halogen family making its molecules quite heavy thus inhibiting the evaporation of tungsten during the time it's hot. At least, that's the theory and it supposedly can be run hotter since the gas will be better at keeping the filament intact than, say, argon. However, there's only so much light you're going to extract when running a 55 watt bulb - the limit is the power going into the bulb no matter what the hype says. You can either go to a higher wattage bulb at the expense of additional heat and more current in the wires, or, you can go HID which uses less wattage, runs cooler, and gives off twice the light. Rather than doing that, perhaps a pair of additional lights would be a good answer to those who feel they need better light. Personally, unless I positively MUST ride at night, I avoid it like the plague. It ocassionally happens, but, not often with me.
