Default Gerbing temp controller

I just bought a set of Gerbig heated gloves and an on/off switch. I wanted the temp controller but it is $69. Seems like a lot of money for temp controller. Has anyone made there own controller? There's got to be something at Radio Shack that can be rigged to work.

What is a temp controller? A rheostat?

How are they rated? The gloves hook up to the 12v battery, and have a 15 amp fuse.

Vic,

Have you used your switch yet? I'm quite happy with mine. I use one switch for my Gerbing Jacket and gloves (they seem to be well matched in terms of heat evenness) and another switch for my Gerbing socks.

The reason switches work well enough is because of the insulation in the Gerbing items. When I get too warm and select off, it takes awhile for me to cool down. Thus, I end up cycling on and off to suit; for example, 10 mins on, five mins off is typical.

That's what I was thinking. The switch should be enough. I haven't had the chance to use them yet. Getting done work at 5AM tomorrow, maybe I'll try them then. I did a little research on making a controller and it seems a little more complicating than just using 1 rheostat. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

If you do end up buying a controller, consider the Harley Davidson along with the Gerbing. A friend purchased the HD dual version and it looks to be quite rugged, with larger ***** that can be readily used with gloves.

Regards, Gary

Tried the gloves out this morning. Ambient temp about 48°-50°. Only a 25 minute ride home from work at 5AM. Gloves felt toasty but didn't feel too warm at all. I think I'll be able to get by without the temp controller.
I do have to do something about those wires. I was worried that they were going to either melt on the jugs or exhaust, or tangle up in the wheel. Gonna try running them under the seat.
