I have run the PCIII on a 95" build that was just fine, but once you start getting into the bigger builds, or bigger cams where there is a need for a large change to the timing tables, you need to go to the next level, SERT, SEST, TTS etc.
PCIII gives ±10° of advance settings in 250 areas of the RPM/TP chart. Not sure about PCV, but it may be more, as the AFR range on it jumped from ±100% to -100/+250%.
There are autotune systems out there, but they too are not truly autotune, you still need to make tweaks to maps. Nothing beats a dyno but you can get close.
PCV-AT is true auto-tune for the AFR but not ignition timing tables, which is much easier to tune properly.
IMO the best bang-for-the-buck is a PCV from Fuel Moto, which will get you into a tuner with an accurate map for $300, and a dyno-tune is not required for most hardware configurations. Search "Fuel Moto" in the Touring section of this forum for more feedback on their products and service.
If you have not changed anything and the popping has just now started, look for an air leak in the exhaust. If it has always been popping, you can correct this with the TTS by modifying the map that is currently installed (the person who tuned the bike should have given you a copy of this). Download the tuning guide from the TTS mastertune site for complete instructions on how to eliminate the popping, but usually you need to richen the AFR 5-10 percent in the 0% TPS region between 1500 to 3000 RPM. http://www.mastertune.net/files/calibrations.asp

Thx Gary, I just resealed my mufflers and tightened the head pipes. If that doesn't take care of it, I will check with my tuner.......and TTS website.
Ordered a TTS today .... reading the manual but haven't had that "aha moment".
I think I'm ok on the set up and running the vtune etc. What confuses me is the CLB and VFR tables. If I set the CLB table to say ... 758 I would get a AFR of 14.55 after running the Vtune set up. What if I wanted to run 13.5 AFR? The CLB values are above the recommended maximum of 800. Do I just go to the AFR Table and select 13.5 AFR after doing the Vtune?
Hope I'm not to vague as these CLB's and AFR tables are a little confusing!
Tuning yourself with the tts is not so easy. but like i did,i bought from Doc a reliable tuner
who stand behind is product, you have to follow carfully the tuning guide to acheive a good tune for your bike, after that, i sent the final map to Doc,he tweaked the values to create the final map for me. Now my bike is running great
Warning, buy from someone who will help you if you need and be ready it got lot of time
i have a master tune 2 p/n 2000008. what hardware do i need so i can tune my Bike
