Default TTS Master Tune ?

Pardon my ignorance, but I've been reading on this TTS thread and was wondering, what's the advantages in purchasing a TTS master tune rather than a PCIII or PC V ? I know it might have a broader spectrum of tuning ability, but how much does a normal build really need ? What's the advantages that justify going with the TTS ?

The TTS Mastertune will allow for a specific tune for your engine and its components. It "learns" by logging data as you ride. You simply compare the run data with a basic map, and the system will generate another map. This new map is downloaded and the process is repeated. After 2 or 3 runs your map is dialed in for your combination. No canned map for any Powercommander can do that. Plus the TTS has many more features than even a SERT.

The way I understand this thing gives you the tools needed, "for you", to get your engine indivualual needs known and, "for you", to satisfy them.

A big point of all this is that you are dealing with Software to do the job. Whereas the PCIII,V, and all other fact similies are hardware devices. Why add another piece of hardware to your bike, which could be another point of failure when all you need is a laptop, cables, and software to tune.
Also, TTS were the original designers I guess you could say of the SERT. I believe all the other functions that you can use with TTS couldn't be folded into the SERT. Probably due to HD direction.

I have run the PCIII on a 95" build that was just fine, but once you start getting into the bigger builds, or bigger cams where there is a need for a large change to the timing tables, you need to go to the next level, SERT, SEST, TTS etc.

TTS is not an "autotune" system and requires a bit of learing and some understanding of the relationships of timing and fuel. TTS can you get to about 80 - 90 percent right, same if you run SERT but with SERT you would need another diagnostic tool.

There are autotune systems out there, but they too are not truly autotune, you still need to make tweaks to maps. Nothing beats a dyno but you can get close.

The TTS has some really nice capabilities, and I am happy with it so far, having switched from the DTT TCFI IID system.

So this works like a SERT in that it tunes the stock ECM?

So how hard is it to learn how to use a TTS system ? And another problem, hardly anyone knows how to dyno with TTS. They say they do, but the second you drive off there on the phone trying to find out how to tune. This takes away from what it's all about I would think.

If I understand correctly, this TTS system will tune the bike with your help using the 02 censors . Then the trick comes when you learn how to twick the map. Am I reading this right ?

TTS will NOT tune your bike with the O2 sensors . What it CAN do is datalog with those sensors( you hook your laptop up to the bike and ride! while riding you collect data), and generate a NEW map, using that data. THEN you download that NEW map into the bike. DO this a few times, it refines the 'Tune' each time, and then the bike is really close...90-95% of an actual dyno tune.

And.......... I just bought TTS and did this datalogging and tuning. It's easier than it appears. All it take is a good 'gotcha' moment, and it all falls together.

I do NOT see why a decent tuner can't do TTS, either. TTS is an outgrowth of SERT. SAME tuner as SERT, actually the company that made the SERT now makes the TTS, but TTS has upgraded capacities. SAME VE tables, and AFR tables, etc.

ALl that being said, and I REALLY like my TTS.
For simple Stage 1 build, a PCV with auto tune should be good. The canned map question has been beat to death here, but they DO make your bike run OK. But......... one needs to think ahead. If a cam or anything whatsoever beyond a Stage 1 is even remotely in your future, you need to think hard about a TTS. IMHO.

Read THIS whole thread, then you will know if u want a TTS

A "canned map" is a generic map. The problem is every motor has small differences, so a canned map is close but not exact. If you are at a different altitude from where the canned map was generated then that is different also. TTS allows you to calibrate your O2 sensors and to set your V/E tables optimally...not a canned map. I just installed mine and it got rid of the decel popping and a hard stumble just off idle. It is still not quite right at WOT but in the closed-loop operating area it is very, very close. Now I'm installing a Wood TW6-6 cam and will run the existing map through V-tune again to tune to the new cam. I had the PCIII before, there is no comparison. Thank you Herko!
