Default Is the SE Pro Super Tuner worth it?

So I am at the dealer today to get some parts ordered and schedule service for my 2010 Fat Bob. Last time around I got the SE slip on pipes, and now I was going to add the SE Ventilator Air Cleaner kit. Now I know this requires a reprogram of the ECM but the dealer is pushing the SE Pro Super Tuner and a Dyno Tune. Naturaly, I have a lot of querstions now for those who know more than I do :-).

First, Is this really worth the money? I originally planned on just doing the ECM download. To be honest, I like performance, but I dont need bragging rights.

Second, I thought you could Dyno tune without a seperate "tuner". If so do you really need a seperate "tunner"?

I just want to ride and enjoy the bike, Not race it, Just motor around town, and the state. Will the ECM download work for me just as well then? I dont plan on boreing out the engine or doing any other mods to it so I am not sure I will ever really truley use it or even need it.

So my fellow riders, the questions above are posed to you. All thoughts opinions, ideas, are all welcome! I dont want to make a $$$ mistake. Thanks all!

My personal opinion. Save your money and buy the TTS Mastertune, with V-tune.
It's a much better tuning software.

I have purchased the SEPST and will be using the "smart tune" feature as soon as the weather breaks.

+1

Can't speak for the SEST.....BUT.....

1) I seriously doubt that you'll get the same support from HD compared to TTS.

2) Way more information from members on this forum on TTS...

3) TTS was the original manufacturer of the SERT, so why would you not go with the company which developed the technology?

4) And if I'm not mistaken if all else doesn't sway you I believe the TTS costs less.

In all seriousness, I purchased my TTS for Doc @

http://www.hdmdtuningcenter.com/

and although I have some very basic knowledge about motorcycles in general, by no means am I a mechanic or very familiar with dyno tuning, but with a bit of reading on this forum, the guide from TTS and Doc's guide, I was comfortable enough to start working with the TTS. I'm now just waiting for spring so I can do my runs and fine tune it some more.

If you need any more help or info feel free to PM me .

Good luck with your decision

Buy yourself a TTS tuning kit and enjoy your ride. The kit will provide you the best riding satisfaction you can get regardless, for something like $400-$500 plus a few hours of your time.

1) SEST is not worth the money when compared to other tuning options.
2) You do need an add on tuner to tune (program) the EFI. You don't need one to download a HD map at the dealer.
3) The HD map downloads are a waste of $$$. The factory downloads are detuned to meet EPA standards and cost way too much. Any tuning product will increase your driving satisfaction significantly. It is not about racing but just how well the bike feels.

Why are you getting the AC? Posing/looks or performance? If performance, get a TTS kit rather than the cleaner, much more bang for the bucks. Add the cleaner later if you want.

The TTS tuning kit is a better product than the SEST or SEPTS or anything HD and it works very well. If you are careful, you get similar street results as you would with a professional dyno tune.

In order to sell SESTs, HD is packaging them with their Staged kits, and when the pros concerned about customer satisfaction throw the SEST away and substitute a TTS kit, that is saying something. Just saying.

The TTS kit is a good tuning tool from stock applications to wildly modified and is reasonably priced (compared to other HD aftermarket parts). There is no one product right for everyone, but the TTS kit is so easy to use and provides equal to or better real world satisfaction than a SEST or PCV or any of the auto tune modules.

With TTS you don't have to justify lack of effectiveness because you are saving a few $$$.

Awesome info all! Thank you all very much!

Being a very non mechanical type, I tend to stick with Dealer for a variety of reasons, mostly being, the idea of installing a TTS and doing the tuning scares the crap out of me, I am a PC geek, not a mechanic. My philosophy is pay somebody to do it it right once, not pay somebody to fix my screw up, I make enough money in my line of work becasue of this already! Also since the bike is new, and parts are bought within 60 days of purchase, they are all covered under HD factory warrenty for the next 2 years. Call it peace of mind I guess.

I will say you all have my interests peaked on this topic now, I was all set to just leave my ride stock and add parts for my own look and feel and never thought I would start messing with the engine and performance (yeah, I know, I'm a sucker). I will be bringing this up prior to getting anything installed with the dealer jsut to at least hear their side of the story (As tainited as it may be, everybody deserves a fair shake).

Maybe its time to grow a larger set of ***** and figure out the mechanical side of things.
Thanks again for your input...more to follow when I get this all done.

Im Seriously Pissed about the Dealers here, They wanted to soak me for $350 CDN for the download because I was adding piped and the SE Stage one breather. I mean, WTF are they one? Glue? for an extra $150 I could get myself a TTS.

So... now... my only issue is warentee. What is the process going to be for warrantee?

If you are a PC geek, you will have no problem at all using the TTS to tune your bike. In fact, I bet you'll have fun doing it! To see how it works, you can download the tuning guide from http://www.mastertune.net/files/Tuni..._Guide-125.pdf .

The process for running VTune on you bike may look intimidating at first, but is is actually easy to do and takes about 3 iterations to produce a very good tune.

Doesn't sound right. Just checked my invoice for my 08 that was bought in Jan. 08. The Flash was $230.99 and the A/C was 183.99. ( These prices are Canadian)

$350 seems really steep. Even for Quebec.

I don't think the Moss act carries any water for us Canadian riders. Yes there could be warranty issues.

One way around it is if your dealer does it and is willing to stand behind it. Otherwise you might be stuck with the SEST. They still might give you a bit of grief. Once they give you something where the control of the ECM is taken into your hands, and out of their's, it can be a grey area.

If you trust your dealer, and he's willing to do it, you might be OK. Along with the TTS tuning software, it gives you the opportunity to save the original map for the bike so if something goes sideways, you can reload the original back in before you take it in. Not sure if they can track that or not?

Your call. I waited on the TTS until the warranty was close to being up. I only did wait as my 08 was the first year for ABS and FWT. I'm not waiting on the 09 Dyna. It's getting the TTS treatment with the RG right away.
