Hello!
I'm looking for help or advice regarding my bike, which yesterday, on our hottest day of the year so far in England, my bike decided to not start! Ive had to book it into the local dealer who are sending a van in a couple of days to pick it up but I would be very grateful of any suggestions or experience regarding my problem, which is as follows; turning the tank switch to ignition gets nothing. No lights, no turn signals, no whirr and click, nothing to start. The only thing showing is the red alarm key in the big dial. I have an 08 Nightrain, which is my first bike, and up til now never ever let me down. Then Sunday morning, it was like someone took all the fun away! The night before, the only thing I did as I dusted it down was press the turn signals to check all were operating, and they were. The night before I had been on a faultless run out for around 50 miles. I have it hooked to an Optimate charger over night, and my battery is tested and fine. Some people have mentioned the rectifier/regulator, which they say are prone to just going, and others have suggested I have inadvertadly put my bike into 'sleep mode' Dont know how! All I do know is I missed an awesome day and I have NO mechanical knowledge whatsoever and don't want my pants pulling down at the garage. Fore-warned is, as they say, fore-armed! Please forgive me for my lack of knowledge, but I got the bike 'cos I love it, not to get my hands dirty!
Many thanks for any advice,
Ben
Step one, buy an owner's manual. Second, I would look at the fuse box first to see if one popped. But you may need some help finding it, hence the manual. I was lucky that mine came with my bike. It's my first bike and the information in there is worth the 40 american you'll drop on it. Or, if you don't want to get your hands dirty, take it down a shop.
Thanks for the replies, I guess I left a few things out, because as usual I put things up on the forum before I go to bed! I do have the owners manual, and have tried to go through the procedures listed but they only work if the bike will turn on. I went straight out to pick up a couple of new batteries for the fobs, to no avail. Ive had the seat off and gone thru the fuses, and even checked and replaced the two relays, again, nothing. Funny thing is, when I dissconnect the battery; the alarm still works fine! I have a feeling its one of those things where the tech guy will plug it into his diag machine, press less keys than I am at the moment and say 'problem solved'. I posted on here just to see if this struck a chord with anyone else. Im just glad its happened in my back yard, and not when I was out and about!
Will keep you posted
Ben
Ok guys, thanks for all your help. All it was was a loose connection under the big ignition switch! Back in business, amazing how such a big piece of kit can be rendered useless by such a little thing!
