yesterday the wife and i went on a 200+ mile ride. hit a few short rain showers, lots of sun, 90+ temps. I stopped to fuel up about 50 miles from home and when i started the 02 Heritage, the EFI indicator did not come on and the Neutral light failed to come on. I hit the starter and away we went. i really did not think much of it. Honestly i have not had the bike long enough to know all the ins and outs. I stopped near the house again, and when i went to start it, nothing! no instrument lights, no EFI sound (pump) or light, no head lights, or rear lights. I DO have a front fender running light, odometer, brake light and horn. i don't believe that it could be a fuse due to since so many things went out at once, and according to the manual some things are working that should not be if it were a fuse. I was thinking that it might be the switch. i got the bike home via trailer and i am going to look at it this morning. any help, ideas, would be great. Thanks
p.s. i tried having it jumped and that did not work either. the battery connections are fine. the battery is old, but was on a tender until i purchased the bike a month ago. i drive it darn near daily, and figured the alt. would charge it fine until i picked up a tender this fall. Oh, and the Back Light behind the Odometer is working as well.

up date. i pulled the switch out of the bike. i am getting power going into the switch at about 13volts. I tested thw red, red/gry red/bk and am getting a clean circuit through red red/bk when the switch is on aux or ing. this leads (no pun intended) me to believe that the red/gry post on the switch is bad. this would explain why i have some function off the aux mode. according to the diagram the wiring looks to run all 3 leads when on ign. if you have any idea or comments, or if i am going a$$backward on this please let me know. about to tear the switch apart, but have no freakin idea how to get the ring lock off.
put the test meter to a friends switch, and i was right. the left connection reads. tried it on my bike then and BAM! everything is good. Caught my local indy dealer by a chance of luck while he was feeding his dong at the shop and he set a switch out for me. bike is up and running.
Way to go. Good troubleshooting. If that part of the switch is prone to harbor moisture on your model bike, some water displacement grease might be a good thing to dab around in that area....but not on your contacts because this grease is not a conductor...just a water repellent. Good luck.
