I was out for a ride yesterday morning when i looked down to check my speedometer and saw it was reading 0mph. The back-light and idiot lights were working still so i know it had power to it, it just wasn't registering speed. The stealership had the bike and they can't find the issue either. They swapped out the speed sensor and that didn't help the issue. In the end they ordered a new speedometer for my bike and on the ride home it acted up as well.
The bike is a 2010 Iron 883 and has coil/ignition/speedo relocations done to it but i haven't cut or spliced into the harness at all.
I recently installed a Radio Shack car adapter to power my IPod and my Garmin. I hard wired it in close to the speedometer inside the fairing. Suddenly my speedometer would intermittently go to zero, my tach would do the same, idiot lights would light up, and 'Bus Er' would display on my odometer. I removed the adapter and everything went back to normal. I suspect it is an electrically noisy adapter that interfered with the Harley computer signals.
