Electrical problem...need help!
I have a 1988 FXRS lowrider...has an Ultima 120in engine...here's my problem...was out riding and the bike started to break-up...soon as this happened..pulled over..shut it off...turned it back on and noticed that the indicator and dash lights were flickering...hit the start button..nothin...i also have a direct start button on the starter...hit that nothin...got it home...checked the connections to the battery...positive was alittle loose...tightened it...didnt help...had battery load tested its good...its only about 2mos old...drag specialty 310 amp....hit the start button again...can here the starter relay buzzin...checked the battery ground...thats good also...im figuring somethin is grounding out somewhere...just dont know where to start or what to check...need help!

i checked that...i'll check it again to make sure...my starter switch acts up sometimes it will work sometimes it wont...hence the direct start button...could a short in that switch cause this?

ok...had the battery checked at the hd dealer....13.2 volts...190 cca...its 310 cca battery..said to replace...i replaced the regulator too...i did this because ealier the regulator wire rubbed thru on the front mount...killed the battery completley...got new battery...charging system was working..so i figured i got lucky...should have replaced it anyway...im thinkin that it may have been the regulator finally quit...got weakened from before...the hd dealer said i most likely got a dead/damaged cell...he said that it may have over charged the battery if the regulator went bad too...im just wonderin about the the stator now...if that got damaged...i guess i wont fully know until i get a new battery and see what its doing...any other thoughts??
