First off, welcome to the forum.

As for your problem, the question would be, what changes have you made? If none, it sounds like you have a short in the high beam line....if you're still under warranty (2004, you might still be), I would consider taking it back to the dealership and let them spend their dime...

If not, I would start by checking the high beam line at the switch, see if it's shorted to ground, and take it from there.

(Might want to check your CAPS LOCK button as well)

Thanks Mac,

Na the dealer is out of the question they rip people off to much and I rather do it myself.

I will for sure need to check the wiring but wanted to see if anyone has any idea on how it would be shorting out or what would cause it to start shorting out

again thanks

You may have a short where the wiring makes a hard turn or quite possibly you have a crimped wire up by the grip. Have you changed the grips? If so, make sure the wiring harness fits in the recess on the underside of the handle bar. If it doesn't, the switch housing will crimp the wires causing a short. Check the wiring inside the headlight case. If I remember correctly, the yellow wire is the low beam.

Welcome to the forum

Sounds like you have a grounded wire in the hi beam circuit, I would give a look where the harness enters the light shell or in the light itself before you tear into everything else, but that's about the only thing that could cause what you have there.

Update: I opened my headlamp housing and pulled the lamp out and saw that one of the wires had been smashed between the lamp and one of the screws that holds the housing on the bike the wire wasn't cut but it was showing a little bit just threw some electrical tape around it and worked like a charm hopefully the tape will stay for awhile

Again thanks to all

Being in the headlight housing, the tape should hold for quite a while. If you are concerned, you can cut the wire and splice it back together with either an insulated butt connector or a bare butt connector covered with head shrink tube. Glad you got it all worked out.

kid966,

Glad you found it, Old Geezer has the right idea, go ahead and take time to repair it properly, it won't take long and this way you don't have to worry about the light shorting out again when you're doing about 65 mph at night and suddenly no lights. Just a thought.
