Follow up - Autozone doesn't stock that O-ring anymore. So I bought the 150 piece SAE set for under 8 bucks. It turns out the 5/16ths outer, 1/2 inner, 3/32nds thickness O-ring works. I was skeptical. It seems like a flimsy arrangement, but that small center piece expands the O-ring into the slot that it sits in and forms a tight seal I guess.
And after removing the old one, it's easy to see that it's not if, but when every one of those will need replacing. Mine came out in crumbly pieces. I'm surprised it sealed at all.
Also, I ended up removing the fitting from the tank to work on it. Not necessary, but I did anyway. You have to remove the pump and filter arrangement and disconnect that feeder hose to allow it to twist when you unscrew the fitting, so be aware of that if you remove yours.
As a side note to this years old thread, when I recently ran into the O ring issue,my mechanic buddy that works at our local Harley shop, turned me on to the fact that the oil drain plug O ring will fit in the fuel petcock as well.It does, and it works!

You can buy the correct Viton O-rings from Fuel Tool and get everything you need to rebuild that quick disconnect fitting. Regular o-rings are not gonna last.

I was wondering if generics from a car parts store would last. I guess I don't want to find out. I ordered a set of Fuel-Tool o-rings from Amazon. Cheap insurance.
