1979 fxef want start other then kick
ok first of all thank you for looking at this and helping me...i have a 1979 harley fxef fatbob with 1340 shovelhead and 4 speed....after a wile my bike started to get harder and harder to start then all i get now is a click..ok dead battery went to store and got new battery chargered it all night ,put it back in bike and still click the drive gear does ingage to the clutch sprocket but dont have the power to turn,ok took battey charger and jumped off the starter it works,...solenoid jump the to big post just sparks so i jumped the long small post to the big post and just clicks....so what could it be? i do have a book on it? but electrical is not my stong suit?dont know to much about oms and stuff....i tryed to find the relay but i dont have one?funny huu?,can you help? need starter,solenoid? all cables are good and clean ....again thank you for your help

I! had a similar prob on my 79 low rider, took it apart for pain n chrome got it back together, started it drove down the drive came back, got ready to leave no start I did what youre doing nothing nowhere. try unplugging the tach on mine then everything worked good luck bud

in 79 the relays were usually behind headlite in the bucket ,and usualy one off the battery or under the speedo plate, im trying to help itsbin along time since my last shovel, did you check wires in the starte swich housing? for mashed bare wirers also the push button switches use to go bad, if you don't find a bad relay or bad wires try jumping the starter button behind where the wires are soldered, hope this helps bud

is it posable that i dont have a relay,i took battery tray,tank,seat,starter,headlight,top off motor and trany off ....no relay......all is back together now but that was in the past ...just trying to find out why im getting the clunk...starter works outside the bike and inside bike ...its like starter just dont have the power to turn it ...ive even tryed a jumper box stight to the wires."headlights get brighter"but thats it,still clunk.....

and forgot the kill switch just stops the spark not starter,i can still turn it over with the kill switch off just want start

got it to work ......turns out my new battery had a dead cell....got one of the big bear "350cca" she starts right up..thanks guys
