Hey guys...I need some help. I walked out to fire up my 02 883, and everything seemed normal. I pulled the choke, hit the start button...and I only got one "click." After the click, my speedo/tach lights went out and there was no power to the bike. I turned the key to ACC and everything was normal, but obviously didn't start. So I turned it back to ignition...and I'm not getting lights on the speedo/tach, head light, tail light, etc. It's dead on ignition. When it comes to electrical stuff, I'm at a complete loss. Can anyone help me and give suggestions as to what the problem could be...and a fix for it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Make sure the 3 ground connections are clean and tight and the battery has a good charge on it. With a multi-meter, the battery voltage should read around 12.5 volts. If the problem persists, try removing the starter relay and tapping on a hard surface. Put the relay back and try again. Good luck.
The battery "should" be good because I just bought it back in February. I'll have to take it to O'Reillys today and have them check it because I don't have one of those testers.
In reference to the starter relay...is that behind the triangle shaped cover on the left side of the bike? Sorry for my ignorance, like I said, I'm not an electrical guy at all! lol This is just frustrating though. Things were just fine and then yesterday, my bike doesn't have any juice when it's on ignition, just when it's on ACC.
Don't overlook the charging system when you get it started. It doesn't matter how "new" the battery is, if the stator or regulator aren't keeping the battery charged.
I appreciate all the input guys, but it's not the battery. It tested like a brand new one. So I guess now it's time to check fuses and the starter relay. Man this sucks! Lol
