Battery draining
If so then this bike is a DYNA and not a Softail and the TSM/TSSM is NOT in front of the rear wheel.
It is behind the side cover on the left hand side of the bike.
Chances are that the TSM needs to be pulled and check the plug for corrosion OR just replace it if everything is clean.
It get's constant power from the security fuse no matter if it is a TSM or TSSM and like everything electrical and 10 years old it has probably faulted or corroded at the connector.

Yea good advice, clean with a good connector cleaner and then dielectric grease.
If we leave the security fuse out while the bike is sitting, the battery doesn't drain. But to ride, have to have the fuse in place to start the bike, run the turn signals. Problem is, the bike does not charge while riding. A 2 1/2 hour ride and after we pulled in the drive and turned it off, would not start again. Battery was completely dead. So, back to the drawing board. Still leaning towards the stator, even though, according to the multimeter reading, appeared to be fine. Will probably take the bike apart again, start tracing wires and rechecking readings on all. Summer's getting shorter and want to go to another rally, hope to be able to get it fixed before then!!
And, yes, the TSM/TSSM and fuse panel are on the left side of the bike under the cover, we have just been leaving the cover off right now to access the fuse. Apparently there was nothing wrong with the original TSSM. I guess we now have a spare!
