Crazy charging problem
2006 street glide. I noticed noise that seemed to be a loose primary chain. Like a grinding sound when I let off of the throttle. I tightened the chain a little and the sound continued for a couple of days and all of a sudden went away. Then I started noticing after start up the engine light would come on for a couple of seconds and then go out. This lasted for a couple of days and yesterday I started the bike to leave work, the engine light came on and went off and everything seemed normal. About 40 min into my ride home I noticed the engine light on and I was only charging at about 10 volts. I got off of the interstate about 5 miles after that and the gauge read about 8 volts. I made it 4 more miles home and shut the bike off. I charged the battery and started the bike today. The voltage read pretty steady at about 13.8 while at idle after a few seconds I hit the throttle and the voltage immediately came down to 12.6 volts and then just continued to fall until I shut the bike off. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help.
