OK, So an update on my charging issue with the E-Glide.
I have narrowed it down to the connection on the left side of the Voltage regulator. It will charge normally for days, then all the sudden lose connection and drop to 10 volts. I screw with the connection, wiggle it, push on it, etc and it will go back to 14. So its the connection. I have pulled it all apart a few weeks ago, put dielectric grease on it (maybe a mistake as it inhibits conductivity), and it was fine for a few rides....prolly cuz i messed with the plug.
OK, so my question is, I see this harness disappear into the case. it is either losing connection at the plug itself or the wires are kinda broken at the plug. Should I decide to just replace the harness what am i in for ? with it disappearing into a bolted connection at the case whats going on there?
Any help and insight would surely be appreciated.
Go to the DIY Electrical section, where you will find stickys on checking your charging system. They should enable you to isolate the actual culprit. The wiring at the crankcase goes to the stator and if there is any fault there, change the stator. But don't change anything until you have diagnosed the source of the problem.
I am confident its at the plug going into the voltage regulator..so either the plug itself or the wiring within 1/4" of the plug...i can wigggle that plug and make it charge, not charge. its like the wire is broken (or breaking) at the plug going into the voltage reg. so i can either cut the wire and reattach the plug or buy a new wiring harness from the regulator to the stator...wo i need to break into the case to get the other end of that harness ? or does it basically plug into the case i guess is my question. there is a little bolt at the wire and the case.
