So have this bike. its a 71 motor vin 4A29045H1. So that tells me its a 71 and an xlch. Now the bike was built by my uncle in delaware custom frame that is a 2001 built frame with a delaware produced vin that isnt 17 numbers. Im in illinois and the title HAS been sn illinois title but when it comes to getting insurance i dont know what i need to do. Do i get insurance on it as a 71 harley xlch 900 or what? I just dont know lol. Help a feller out why dont ya. Thanks for your time!
How to do it, not sure. But you WANT to be registered and insured to the HD factory number. Custom will equal more money for insurance and make you need to comply with 2001 DMV regulations, instead of 1971. My response is based on my knowledge of NYS, not your state.
Your bike only has 1 year on the title. Insurance and registration has nothing to do with the year of the "parts" of the bike and is based upon your title.
LOL, think your's is mixed..... One of mine is actually titled as a 1960, the frame is a 74, the engine is a 79, the trans is a 77, the forks are 47, and on top of all that, it has a Massachusetts VIN build sticker on it so the title uses it and neither the factory vin on engine or frame!
What does the title say it is? Harley or Composite/Altered/Custom? That's what the insurance company will call it. afaik, the only company that offers comprehensive insurance (fire and theft) on a bike with a state-issued VIN is Markel.
My question is if we have not bought any insurance, then simply we cannot get anything. Last Sunday, I faced an accident because the other person did not stop at the red light, I have to spend 1300$ to repair my car. Now can I ask for compensation, one of my friends told me that I have to hire a car accident lawyer but am confused should I hire someone or just leave it? City traffic officials have the record and they fined the owner just for red-light violations.
1st Post - SIMPLE ANSWER. Insure it by what the TITLE says it is. Don't complicate the simple.
2nd Post - SIMPLE ANSWER. You stated you have no insurance. That makes you an UNINSURED MOTORIST. Be thankful you did not get a ticked for it. Forget a Lawyer, you fkd youself.

Update! After fighting a legal battle with the assistance of Seattle Accident Law Firm, I was able to get $1500 as loss compensation.
Thanks all specifically @TexasScooterTrash for guiding me that I should buy insurance.
