Default compensator sprocket..pinion

Hi.I'm thinking my compensator assembly is giving me problems. It's been rattling and a slight vibration when I take off in first gear for a month or so..What do you think about just changing it out with a direct drive motor sprocket.....Also about that clutch.Remember I am going to install a barnett kevlar..Well should I go ahead and change the springs and bearing or anything else when I pull it apart.I've waited on the clutch because I suspected the compensator assembly..If it was your clutch and you were doing it what would you change with the plates..It is a 1976..thanks..

pitbull1...
The compensating sprocket should not be making noise, so are you certain that is the case? Is it chain noise perhaps?
The vibration may well be coming from your clutch, and I suspect that is the case.
I would change out the plates on the clutch, and plan on nothing else. When you open it up you can see if there is damage to any of the parts.
Check your clutch basket grooves. The ears on the clutch plates can wear deep grooves into the slots. If this is real bad then you should replace the clutch basket/sprocket assy.
If you have to remove the hub, be sure to torque down the nut to 100 ft lbs and use the bend over tab on the washer when you reinstall it.
For a comparison purpose, I am still running the original basket on my Sporty, and that is 34 years old. They will last a long time, unless they have suffered some abuse.
The clutch springs are really a heavy item and I forsee no problems with those at all.
Hope this helps..............pg

I wish I know on the noise.I realize it shouldn't be making noise. It's kind of a rattle.I only hear it and feel a slight vibration when I let the clutch out in First gear..What do you think about changing it out to a direct drive motor sprocket.

I would certainly not change the sprocket to a direct drive myself.
The reason being that the comp sprocket is there to absorb the forces put upon it when the engine rpms are down low. Putting a direct drive sprocket on it will transfer this force directly to the crank pin and flywheel. That you do not want......pg
