Seat for a Hardtail?

Seat for a Hardtail?
I have a 78 with a weld -on hard tail. What seat will fit? I have done some research and most seats say ( fits ridgid frame) will that application work for my bike? or is that for custom frames. I made my own seat for now out of sheet steel but in order to get it covered the cost is about the same as buying a new seat!
