I have a 1983 xls with q cams if I put in p cams do I need to put in all new bushings and bearing and what makes the p cams better. Thanks for any help
no reason for new bearings and bushings unles they are just already in poor shape. If they are okay then they will be fine to be kept in there. However you will have to measure the free end play and be ready to re-shim all of the new cams.
The difference in the cams is torque (power). P Cams allow for higher torque and in turn for a more responsive power at the rear wheel. The Q cams like was mentioned in my thread were not responsive at all and were changed out by most people quite often.
Just for the sake of discussion, years ago I bought a set of NEW Andrews PB+ cams for my 900. After going thru the installation and spending all that money, there was NO DIFFERENCEin performance compared to the stock P cams. Eventually I put the stock P's back in and thay have stayed there since.
