Default gear and clutch

i just got a new rear gear for my clutch and had to have the old rivets machined out. now i thought with the new rivits all i would have to do was pound them in. well they go right through the new gear with ease but alot of slop once the go into the main clutch plate. am i gonna have to have the ends of the rivits pressed so they dont fall out or am i gonna have to get bigger rivits. its for my 72 ironhead. did come to find out after getting the new gear that there is more depth into the teeth than the original. this goes back to an older post of mine of the kick would slip then bind up.

If you are sure you have the correct rivets, then you just peen them over. If done correctly, they should tighten right up.

YOu need to buy a rivetting punch, which has a hollow end on it so when you peen the end of the rivet with it, it makes a nice round mushroom. There is also a tool to hold the gear centred and clamped on to the clutch while installing the rivets. Then you have to get the hed of the rivet rested on a solid steel block so you can peen the other end over. Or you can take it to a machine shop and get it power riveted with a rivet gun.
