backwards breaker cam?
When I was checking my timing on my 77 XLT(statically) after i adjusted my point gaps and I noticed that when the straight line for 45 degree advance was dead center in the timing hole that the large lobe on the breaker cam was about to open the points and would open the points if i advanced the lobe counter clock wise with my fingers, and no i do not have the cam in backwards the flat side is next to the cam stop roll pin. Why would it be like this and what do i do to fix it?
Also is it normal to have some back and forth play in the cam between the weights and the screw?

Looks like the timing is 180 degrees out Remove spark plugs Lift rear wheel put trans in 4th gear turn rear wheel until you feel compression on front cyl (also check front cyl pushrods to make sure their turning in your fingers Now look for the timing mark in the window narrow lobe on timing cam should be starting to open the points When you grab the cam turn it CCW It will come to a stop and if everything is ok with the adv mechanism the came should spring back Don't forget to set the pts on both the narrow lobe and the fat lobe of the cam .018 If this is too much call me at 608 847 4240 I'll walk you through it
