well after further indepth inspection i found the dogs on the clutch gear to be worn and rounding+i was coming across small gold color metal fragments(like glitter) in the gear box, found that to be from mainshaft 2nd gear shifter fork!so it was getting ready to go at anytime and was just coincidental that it happened after i made the 2t jump up on the c/s(thats what i was told) so all new parts ordered at a outa pocket exspense of $350.00,thats for both forks, clutch gear and mainshaft 2nd gear+new bearing in the disc basket,OUCH!!!!till parts come in i'll be reading the man. over to get the tolerance sequence as to where i understand what i'm doing?i gota get it down pat with no mistakes, can'nt afford to pay labor or i would, probably saving around $600.00 just for labor!
halmc, think i have a picture of what u mean with the dremel, like square up the rounded edges to get a better bite?in this case i do'nt have alot of bite now+ its to much of a headache to pull the trans to leave it too a chance it might work and it might not, thought for a brief second about shimming the fork back over but again it might or might not work, and if it did then for how long? i do'nt like dishing out the money but i'm not much for gambling either, thanks anyway for the offer.....oh well parts are in tuesday after the 4th so i'll lyk how it works out....then later maybe i'll tackle that oil leak on my front cycl rocker cover

Glad to see you're doing it the right way, and not with a dremel tool. If the shift forks or dogs are worn, removing material from them with a dremel will make your problems worse, not better.

in my opinion i dont think you can get on the throttle with that 23 th.sproket i believe you can only roll on it to get speed remember its a highway sproket.try dropping down one tooth.see what happens.as far as your worn parts that happened when you tryed to run it like you stole it.you did sayit made a bang and it jumped out of 4th.?

Not true. With reasonable tuneup hit it hard in any gear and it goes.

tranny complete!without jinxing myself, so far so good!took a test run out too the shop where i ordered my parts(20ml) and a few short jaunts around the hood...no leaks and no suspicious noises from the tranny(fingers crossed)i must say i have a new found respect for the internal workings of the tranns,so no more bangin around the gears when shifting...all shifts are loving coaxs and with clutch engaged 1st other then simitaneosly or late,i want too thank all who replyed and led me in the right direction! now i have too get over the paranoia of "did i forget anything" in the rebuild every time i ride! again, thanks

True re the shift forks, utterly false re the dogs. Moreover, the shift forks, tho' they might be worn, won't make it jump out of gear. They might, over the long haul, prevent the dogs from completely engaging, and thus make their contribution to the failure.

That said, new parts are the obvious better solution.

Congratulations to 1stsporty for having the courage to dig in and get 'r' done.

Looks like the effort has paid off!

Perhaps it just seems complicated to you.

Of every hundred advisors, whether they be lawyers, bankers, constipated old geezers on a motorcycle forum, or what have you, ninty-nine will be full of knowledge and advice as to why something can't be done.

Of that hundred there will be one who will tell you how to get it done.

I had moderate success in my professional career in hiring the latter and ignoring the former. In fact, when I found one of the 'can't do that' in my midst, I fired 'em and wondered why I hadn't done it sooner.

Life as they say, is about choices.
