Hey all,
It's hard to believe I actually build and customize these Harleys with the question I am going to present....I am redoing a 74 Sporty. She has a late 60's front end. I want to create the look of a cafe racer and want to put on clip-ons. Are these tubes 35 mm or 39 mm? I can't tell and it was not clear when I bought the front end....can anyone help or tell me how to measure the tubes to determine what their measurement is? Thanks in advance,
Gino
Hi Gino.....
I am betting your fork tubes are 39mm, but you should measure them to make sure. If you have a caliper laying around take it and measure the tube diameter. Multiply that resulting measurement (expressed in inches) by 25.04 which will give you the size in millimeters.
For example, suppose the tubes measure 1.557 inches: Multiply that by 25.04 and you get 39mm.........Blake
Sportster history says after 1972 ( as pococj wrote previous models):
1973 New 35mm Kayaba forks, single disc front brakes
1975 New 35mm Showa forks
1988 New 39mm Fork Tubes replaced the older 35mm unit
