Default 72 ironhead speedometer port

Hi, I hear the '72 had either front wheel or transmission speedo hook ups. I have an old springer front on mine so no port there. Where is the transmission port for the speedo located? There is a port on the right side on top of the case toward the front, but I think that's for a tach. Any help?

Speedo drive is located under the tranny sprocket cover on a '72. It didn't go to the front wheel until '73.

Does that mean the sprocket cover needs to be removed to get to it, or is it on the bottom of the motor, under the sprocket cover?

Correct. You need to remove the cover to gain access to the speedo drive on the transmission.
Here is a pic of my 1971 engine calling out the speedo and tach locations.......
