Thanks man, trying to keep things original. 6V provides lousy lighting at night but I rarely ride during dark hours. Had the same battery box and put an agm battery in it. Cooked it pretty good so I had to toss it. Pissed me off because I just bought it and not cheap. I may try it again if the regulator is consistent, a little hesitant at this point.

Stay with 6v put in your lead acid and goto 2 brush gen

Great article by Perry, think I'm gonna send mine to him to convert, Then I will know the actual condition of my gennie. The one that is on there is pushing 30 years. Got the electronic regulator on order. I may stay with the LA battery, after the agm one getting destroyed I'm a little reluctant. I run a sealed battery in my '70 Sportster with a Cycle Electric gennie, runs great, charges well.

I kind of like the LA batteries actually, they seem to have more reseeve power to them. My knuckle really seems to like it as I run spot lights and a lot of load sometimes if I get caught out at night.

Had Bruce Palmer's manuals open yesterday covering battery maintenance. He suggests checking periodically with an old style hydrometer for correct electrolyte levels. States around 3 years average life but has seen them go as long as 10 years when properly maintained......................... out to the garage...
