AL KNAPP not only was he incredible rider from 1947 to 62 he never quit racing - he was the best tank shift rider at 77 i ever seen and we were at MidOhio in 2000 to see him win C class tank shift over 100 MPH on the straightaway
we had won our ARMA Class in CCS in 1998 and 2 in 2000 so we were able to watch him live as it happened - one of those that is really missed
Those Yamaha's sure are fun though! I had a Yammy 500 Gamma Walter Wolf edition back when I was younger, FAST bike with a great sound ! Wish I still had that one.....
Sure! 85 RZ500 Canadian bike with 10,000kms on it. Added it to the (small) collection a year ago, love the sound and 4 exhaust tips not to mention the smoke. Pretty cool bike.
My youngest, he's a big fan of the sport bikes and my youngest daughter prefers a panhead
I had a rz 350 and rd 400 never seen a rz 500 in person, I dont think many made it to the states so any time you want to brag about it , go ahead, cool bike

Couldn't get them new in the US but I guess after 25 years they could come in? Hard to find a clean one up here so I kinda lucked out and found it by placing a want ad looking for one. As much as I like it and 2 strokes are cool, its higher maintenance than an old Harley and the engine can stick a piston without warning (right upper) which is something they're known for like an H2 triple sticks the middle piston.
I think I did pretty good on the frame. Hasn't been sanitized, I think even the tool box bracket is original. What I didn't like was the quality of the paint the PO had done, lots of dirt and some lumps they painted over that I couldn't understand. With it stripped now I know, the furnace brazing was what those lumps were so I guess I'll leave that alone and not smooth them over. I was surprised how sloppy the brazing was, I figured they would sweat the joints and it would look like a solder joint on a pipe not like some kid slobbered all over it. I was also unsure of the tack welds on the axle clips and saddle joints behind the seat post but after seeing the furnace brazing over those tacks it must be original. Ive looked at some frames on line to compare and didn't see those tack welds. Maybe it was something done later in the run? No idea.

Thank you! I know I'm the minority here liking Japanese bikes but just like the old iron they have their significance in history as well. The rivalries between manufacturers to make the lightest and fastest bike year after year and the innovation is pretty interesting. The more you know about that the more you appreciate the bikes.

Funny, I was at Deals Gap couple of years ago and there was a 2 stroke event and several Harley riders were complaining about the loud exhaust, personally I love street 2 strokes
